Brazil looks to top seeding at women’s basketball worlds
Hortencia, president of the Brazilian women’s basketball association, said on Monday she hopes that the team will be seeded top for next year’s world championship.
Brazil is ranked No. 4 in the world, and a top seeding would help prevent the South American team from an early showdown against world No. 1 United States, No. 2 Russia and No. 3 Australia.
“We expect to be at the top. It is vital to be seeded at the top,” said Hortencia, a former basketball player.
The drawing ceremony will take place on November 24.
The championship, featuring 16 teams, will be held in the Czech Republic from September 23 to October 3, 2010.
